Male Beta Fish

In order to breed beta fish you'll need both a male beta fish as well as a female beta fish. Most beta fish sold in pet stores are male. As a result you may find it harder to come by a female beta fish.

When learning how to breed beta fish it is important you become familiar in distinguishing male beta fish from female beta fish. Male beta fish have long fins while the females have short fins.

When learning how to breed beta fish the size of the beta fish tank is the first important step. The beta fish tank should be large enough to provide sufficient room for the beta fish but no so large as to allow them to hide from one another. A 10 gallon tank is often recommended as the optimum size.

When learning how to breed beta fish it is recommended that the tank be relatively free of obstructions such gravel or decorations. This ensures the female will have a clear place to lay her eggs. It is often a good idea to have a few plants to provide the female beta fish some cover while she is laying the eggs.

Another very important factor when learning how to breed beta fish is temperature. The temperature of the water should always be warm. The best temp for breeding beta fish is about 80 degrees F.

When learning how to breed beta fish it is also important to ensure you have proper filtration in the beta fish tank. It is not uncommon to have 50-100 beta fry after successful breeding, so proper filtration and a clean tank are very important. (ENSURE your filter isn't so large as to suck up the beta fry!)

After we have set up the beta fish tank and are ready for breeding we are ready to introduce the male and female beta fish..
