Cleaning Beta Fish Bowls

Within a couple of weeks of getting your new beta fish you will notice a little bit of algae on the inside of your beta fish bowl. This doesn't hurt the fish but esthetically it isn't all that pleasing. It is also a good idea to clean the bowl since to many algae can create unnecessary problems.

When cleaning your beta fish bowl pour most of the water from the bowl (around 80%) into a bucket or another bowl. Then carefully remove your beta fish with a fish net. A 3 inch fish net should be plenty for any beta fish. Place your beta fish in the bucket or bowl with the water. Next remove all the items from the bowl including plants and other ornaments.

After you have removed all items from the beta fish bowl take a clean cloth or paper towel and scrub the inside of the beat fish bowl until it is clean. Rinse the beta fish bowl with water and dry with a paper towel.

Once you have cleaned the beta fish bowl you can pour all the old water back into the clean bowl. Fill the bowl about 2 inches from the top. Add all the items you removed from the bowl. Last but not least add your beta fish.

Be sure to keep your newly cleaned beta fish bowl in a warm area. (In direct sunlight or next to heaters is NOT recommended) This will help ensure your beta fish has a long, healthy and happy life.
